PRESIDENTIAL
AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
(PAOE)
The
Presidential Award of Excellence (PAOE) is management tool and a means of
inspiring chapters to attain certain goals in their activities.
Offered annually to coincide with the Society year, it involves not
only student activities, but also membership promotion, refrigeration,
research promotion, historical, chapter programs, technology and
government activities, presidential activity, and other items set forth by
the Society President.
Since
its initiation by President Bridgers in July 1970, the Presidential Award
of Excellence has become a valuable tool for ASHRAE.
It is popular, effective, and excellent management tool for
inspiring chapters to work on issues of current importance.
Furthermore, the award is a motivational tool and is based on the
principles that chapter performance should be related to predetermined
par, and all factors are adjusted to meet the President’s objectives.
The
categories, associated points, and the award itself, are at the discretion
of the Society President. They
may be revised by the President each year to meet his objectives.
The
Presidential Award of Excellence provides an incentive for chapters to
attain the Society President’s goals.
The student activities portion of these goals should form the basis
of the chapter committee’s goals. The
PAOE points awarded represent recognition of the achievements of you and
your committee by chapter members, regional, and society officers.
Your
close coordination with your chapter president on the Presidential Award
of Excellence Program is an absolute requirement for a successful chapter
year.
Inform
the president of the rules.* Keep
the president informed of your activities and of communications between
you and your Regional Vice Chair for Student Activities.
Remember that the Regional Vice Chair has no obligation to
correspond with your chapter president.
You are responsible for that function.
Be
aware that “Faculty Liaison” members of your chapter are the key to
success in dealing with the area educational institutions.
Formation and operation of student branches, recruiting student
members, and providing students awards will become an easy task for you
with their assistance. Without
them you can fail in many of the Presidential Award of Excellence
categories. It cannot be
over-emphasized how important Faculty Liaison members are to the chapter
and Society.
*Rules
for earning PAOE points will be sent to you by your Regional Vice Chair
for Student Activities. These
rules are also advertised at www.ashrae.org.
CHAPTER
REPORTING
The
Chapter President is responsible for reporting the PAOE points for the new
Chapter Operations category. Each
Chapter Committee Chair is responsible for reporting the points for
his/her respective category. The
PAOE points will be entered directly on the forms on the ASHRAE web site
by the Chapter Presidents and Chapter Committee Chairs by using their
chapter PINs. The Chapter
President and the Chapter Committee Chairs are responsible for insuring
that the data is entered and that the reporting is completed by June 30 of
each year. The RVCs may
access the web site to obtain information for chapters in their Region.
There will be no need for monthly or quarterly reports to the RVCs
by the Chapter Committee Chairs.
ASHRAE HEADQUARTERS REPORTING
The
PAOE Point Summary reports will no longer be necessary.
The data can be obtained for each Chapter in the Region directly
from the ASHRAE web site.
