Our Mission Statement:
Our goal as the Region X nominating team is to select the most qualified ASHRAE members for various positions in accordance with ASHRAE guidelines. Our DRC, Verle Williams, encourages all Chapters to provide nominations for various ASHRAE awards.
ASHRAE Awards:
ASHRAE awards such as the ASHRAE Hall of Fame, the Paul Anderson award, and the ALCO medal for distinguished public service, Distinguished Service, and Chapter Service Awards. A complete list of various ASHRAE awards is presented under appendix N of the "Manual for Chapter Operations" at ASHRAE website at www.ashrae.org.
How can you help?
The future operation of our region, as well as our society, depends upon the qualified individuals that we nominate. Help us to become stronger as a worldwide organization. ASHRAE is a great organization and a global leader. Your nominations support ASHRAE vision for professional growth. It will also help us to recognize our members for their dedication and contribution to ASHRAE.
Upcoming CRC in San Diego, California:
Contact your Chapter's Delegate and Alternate if you know of a potential candidate that could serve ASHRAE beyond Chapter service. These potential candidates make these decisions to learn more about our industry, methods and means to solve the problems encountered with the HVAC &R systems. Great things happen to these individual i.e. Kent Peterson, P.E., President of ASHRAE, (from Orange Empire Chapter).
Now it is time to look at the issue of Bylaw changes of the Society. It was my great disappointment to learn the Board of Director’s passed the Bylaw changes involving “Section 7.12 Removal.” I will pursue a motion through the DRC at CRC as follows:
“Motion: That the Board of Directors reconsider their actions on the Society By-Laws and revert back to the original intent of Article VII Committees, Section 7.12 Removal, ‘The Board of Directors may, by two-thirds vote, remove a member of any committee except Chapters Regional Committee or the Nominating Committee.’”
While the intent of this change was to permit the BOD to remove any member from a committee for unethical behavior, as written this intent may be lost in the future and the clause abused. The BOD should not interfere with any deliberations of the Nominating Committee, yet this change gives them some power over the NC or CRC Delegate or Alternate membership.
